Here are my picks for 5 things to do this week
February 27 at 7pm
Travel back in time with Edmonton’s first Historian Laureate, Ken Tingley, as he takes us back 100 years ago when the Spanish flu when it hit Edmonton.
Free for members of Speaker Series. $5 for public.
February 28 at 7-10pm
Fine Arts Building on U of A Campus
Visit the studios of the senior level painting, printmaking and sculpture undergraduate students at the University of Alberta.
It’s an opportunity to show the community what the visual artists have been working on this semester, give a little behind the scenes of their artistic practice, and show a preview of what’s to come at our 2019 BFA grad show in April.
March 1-9 at various times
Chez Pierre Cabaret
Mercury Opera is messing with the public’s perception of opera with its return to the notorious Chez Pierre Cabaret. They’re presenting La Boheme, the opera that inspired RENT, transplanting Puccini’s beloved tale of youth, love and despair to New York’s Alphabet City circa 1979, where disco and drag queens, painters, punk rockers and poets converged.
All seats are $55 + fees. $65 cash at the door. $30 standing room - subject to availability.
March 2 at 10am
Shamrock Curling Club
A Really Recreational event that’s all about fun, and curling can at times come second to enjoying the party. This event is licensed so that teams can enjoy a few drinks in between games (in the true spirit of curling, of course) while watching crazy tosses and take-outs happening down on the sheets.
No experience is necessary - little to no experience is even preferred!
In order to participate, all registrants must bring a pair of clean INDOOR-ONLY shoes to wear on the ice. Shamrock Curling Club will provide some sliders and brooms, but there won’t be enough for everyone, so you will have to share.
March 4 at 6pm
VCA Canada Guardian Veterinary Centre
The Canadian Animal Blood Bank (CABB) is running a blood donor clinic in Edmonton. The Registered Charity organization supported by the Manitoba Veterinary Medical Association and Red River College in Winnipeg, Manitoba is dedicated to improving veterinary care by providing blood products for animals who require transfusion therapy as part of their care.
Contact clinic to schedule a time for your doggo to donate blood, by calling 780.436.5880 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
